Chiefs CB Mansoor Delane set to play after missing win over Colts

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chiefs rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane, who is recovering from a right shoulder injury, is expected to start in Sunday's road game against the Miami Dolphins.

Coach Andy Reid said Friday that Delane has a "good chance" of playing after being a full participant in each of the Chiefs' three practices this week. Delane also does not have a designation on the injury report.

Delane, the Chiefs' top draft pick, was in uniform last week for the team's overtime win against the Indianapolis Colts but was held out for precautionary reasons.

In the Chiefs' season-opening win over the Denver Broncos, Delane aggravated his right shoulder injury after he intercepted quarterback Bo Nix. Delane's 5-yard return ended when he stumbled and fell to the turf, landing on his right shoulder, with the injury forcing him to miss the rest of the game.

"It wasn't coming around as fast as we wanted," Reid said Monday of Delane's shoulder. "He was right on the border there. He wanted to suit up, and if needed, he could have gone in, but we're trying to keep him out of having to play a full game."

In June, Delane missed the Chiefs' mandatory minicamp because he sustained a hairline fracture in his scapula, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Kansas City traded with the Cleveland Browns, moving up from the ninth pick to No. 6, to draft Delane.

The Chiefs on Friday also listed left tackle Josh Simmons (lower back) as out and safety Chamarri Conner (right knee) as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
